Whacha’ May Have Missed Last Week:
…..Last week the meeting was kicked off with a special Amtryke presentation to Carter Wombacher. Carter, who is six and suffers from Down Syndrome, was accompanied by his father Josh. Carter adapted very well to the tryke and immediately began pedaling around the head table. In the picture, Carter is with his therapist, Kristan Zolnoski, who stated that with the spring-like temperatures last week that Carter was going to bike around outside after the meeting.
Our guest speaker was Sara Myers – Director of the Joseph & Shirley Keirn 
World War II Museum. Sara is a history professor at St. Francis as well as the curator of the museum. The museum is located at 160 St. Mary’s Street in Loretto. Sara stated that the museum opened on Veteran’s Day in November of 2016 as a result of a very generous donation of WW II artifacts from Joseph and Shirley Keirn. The museum has not only the extensive Keirn collection but other donated memorabilia as well. Three rooms are filled with a trove of artifacts, photos, and weaponry; all of which is rotated with additional items to keep the museum fresh. Sara also noted that the museum is always open to donations of additional items and if the items are valuable they will be appraised and a tax deductible receipt is available. Two upcoming events at the museum include a special student display in April and a Veteran’s Day tribute in November. The museum is free to the public and open Wednesday – Thursday – and Friday from 1:00 – 4:30 PM or special tours can be arranged for groups by contacting Sara at 814-472-0740. News of the Week:
…..Vice-President Kristan conducted the meeting and again reminded everyone about the Spring Regional Conference scheduled for the Poconos on April 13th – 15th. She stated that the deadline for registration is March 1st. Information on the conference and registration forms can be found on the Altoona AMBUCS website.
…..It’s probably not to soon to be thinking about our annual Blood Screening set for Saturday May 5th at the Park Hills Golf Club. This event is a very important fundraiser for the club as well as a service to our community. Volunteers are always 
needed that morning from 5:30 to 10:00 AM. A signup sheet will be distributed closer to the event. This year’s cost for the basic screening will be $55. This fundraiser typically nets the club around $12,000 so it’s a big part of our Amtryke budget. Also remember to sign up yourself for a screening and help advertise the event by placing brochures and posters in your office and any other locations where people would see them.
…..The regular monthly board meeting is this week…..on Wednesday the 28th. The board meeting dates & times have changed to the last Wednesday of each month, starting at 12:30 however Kings cannot accommodate us on the last Wednesday of February & March; so an alternate location will have to be found. An email with this week’s location will be sent out soon.
…..Last week the raffle ticket of Bob Fiore, was chosen by Sara Myers, our guest speaker. For some reason Bob chose the Jack of Clubs instead of one of those elusive Jokers. But unfortunately for Bob, Jacks don’t pay nearly as well as Jokers. So that means that this week, you can have the chance to take home a pot of around $470 by picking a Joker out of the remaining 29 cards. Hey, the remaining cards are getting fewer….someone’s going to win some nice cash soon!
