Whacha’ May Have Missed Last Week:
…..Last week our speaker was Scott Maginella of Precious Life. Scott is a retired minister who began Precious Life in 1985 as a charitable organization that promotes pro-life beliefs by assisting pregnant women in crisis. Scott began his talk by thanking the AMBUCS for the good that we do in the community. He then went on to say that his organization assists pregnant women by providing free pregnancy tests, confidential counseling, housing through a maternity home in Hollidaysburg, and adoption counseling. The Christian organization also provides maternity and baby clothes as well as a number of instructional courses on pregnancy, newborn care and parenting skills. The organization has grown and now has offices in Bedford and Johnstown serving 1500 – 1600 women per year. In 2005, they expanded their efforts to Romania where they take care of abandoned babies as well as providing similar services to Romanian women as they do here locally. Supported only by churches, fundraising, and private donations, the organization has an annual budget of over a half of a million dollars. To learn more about Precious Life, contact them at www.plinc.org.

…..A collection basket was passed around last week for a Christmas gift for the Park Hills waitstaff. If you missed last Tuesday, the basket will be passed around again this week.
…..President Rachael also reminded everyone about our annual Christmas candy sale. Orders are due today, December 5th with delivery set for December 12th. …..Last week the raffle ticket of Dean McKnight was chosen. Dean pondered the remaining cards and unwisely chose the Jack of Diamonds. Dean’s bad luck just means one more card is gone, so this week you can have the chance to take home a pot of around $300 by picking a Joker out of the remaining 39 cards. With the two Jokers remaining, your chances are now better than 1 in 20 to take home some holiday cash.
…..The club recently received a request for a donation for the 2nd annual Winterfest, an event that is designed to provide a sensory friendly experience for children with special needs. The board has agree to provide the event with a $250 donation.
…..Do you shop on Amazon? If so, why not designate the Altoona AMBUCS as your charity of choice in their Amazon Smile giveback program? The Altoona AMBUCS are now registered with Amazon and consequently they will donate a portion of your purchases to us as. Just in time for Christmas…. shop on Amazon Smile and choose AMBUCS Altoona as your charity of choice. Also, please pass this along to your friends and family so that they too can support us!
In Closing: Last week I listed a number of acronyms of companies and products we use. Acronyms are also used frequently in social media….however some of us “older” folks have a tough time understanding all of these acronyms. Here are some examples of that confusion:
Mom: Your great-aunt Martha just passed away. LOL
Son: Why is that funny?
Mom: It’s not funny, David! What do you mean?
Son: Mom, LOL means Laughing Out Loud.
Mom: I thought it meant Lots Of Love. Gotta go……I have to re-email everyone back!

Daughter: I got an A in Chemistry.
Daughter: Mom, what do you think WTF means?
Mom: Well That’s Fantastic.

Mom: Son, what do IDK, LY & TTYL mean?
Son: I don’t know, love you, talk to you later.
Mom: OK, never mind, I’ll ask your sister.
