Whacha’ May Have Missed Last Week:

…..Last week’s speaker was Khody Detwiler – Lesnevich & Detwiler – Forensic Document Examiners. Khody and his partner, Gus Lesnevich, own a very interesting business in Roaring Spring where they perform forensic document and handwriting analysis, world-wide. The firm does both private and governmental cases covering topics such as ink separation, indentation analysis, ID and passport verifications, and electronic signature analysis. Khody has testified in numerous domestic and international court cases, many times where millions of dollars are at stake. He gave examples of some very interesting cases where wills were being contested and business contracts were in dispute. From Pro-Bono work for local law enforcement – to cases with celebrities – to cases for the Attorney General…..Khody and Gus perform some very unique analysis.

…..Since lunch was served rather late last Tuesday, the swearing in of new President Rachael Lenhart and her 2017-18 club officers and board was postponed until this Tuesday. Since President Rachael will begin her reign today….please try to remember to properly genuflect anytime she enters the room. Also a big thanks go out to President Ed for a great year!

Guests of the Day:  Bruce Brower introduced his guest, Wil Lightner of Adelphoi Village – Hilltop Specialized Independent Living.

Remember that June is the last month of “Round-up”, our spring membership drive. During this membership drive, the $15 membership fee for any new member will be waived and the new member will receive a $50 credit on their first quarterly dues. Additionally, there are gift certificate drawings for Ambucs who bring guests during the round-up. Why not bring a guest?

News of the Week:

…..Rachael Lenhart reminded everyone that Tuesdaymariannas is the pickup day for the Marianna Hoagie and Pizza Fundraiser. If you want to deliver them to your customers for lunch on Tuesday, the sandwiches and pizzas will be ready for pickup by 10 AM on Tuesday at Park Hills. If you prefer you can also pick them up when you come to club….either way they will need picked up by the end of club on Tuesday! The sale was again a success as Rachael calculated a profit of $755!

Yard Sale…..Lisa Drzal deserves a lot of credit for her hard work and many hours that she devoted to our first annual AMBUC yard sale this past weekend! After our expenses, which included the rental of the display tables and advertising in the Altoona Mirror; the sale netted our club $1,400! Thanks go out not only to Lisa but to everyone who dropped off items for sale, helped to price and sort the numerous items, and to those who worked the sale. Not only did the sale help bolster our general fund, but all of the leftover items were donated to the Altoona Rescue Mission for them to sell. Great job Lisa!

…..Paul Dick announced that we just finalized the purchase of an Amtryke for Xavier Lyon, the little boy from South Williamsport that I found on the Amtryke Wish List. If you haven’t done so yet, please consider joining me in becoming a member of the Wish-List- Club. With a $5 down payment and then $30 a month you can join the Wish List Club and help bring Amtrykes to children on the Wish List. It couldn’t be any easier to join the AMBUCS Wish-List-Club…….just go to: and sign up.                                For just a dollar a day……it couldn’t be easier to bring a smile to a future Amtryke recipient!

…..Hard to imagine but we have no June Ambucs birthdays! Last month we had eight Ambucs with birthdays in May and this month none. One more reason for someone to find a new Ambuc member with a June birthday!

…..Thanks go out to Bob Fiore as he agreed to store the Amtrykes we recently recovered from WeCare. And, even better, his Fiore Furniture employees even picked them up from Ed Farabaugh’s garage last week!

…..Our guest speaker, Khody Detwiler, pulled the winning raffle ticket of Lisa Drzal Jokerlast week. Unfortunately for Lisa, she chose the Eight of Hearts, which unlike those elusive Jokers……….paid nothing. Therefore, there are still two Jokers in the deck with eleven cards gone, so try your luck with the purchase of a raffle ticket this week. The Pot’s now around $225.
