Whacha’ May Have Missed Last Week:
…..Last week’s speaker, Will Lightner of Adelphoi Village was not able to attend. We’ll have to have Will attend a meeting in the future.
Guests of the Day: There were no guests last week. Remember that May and June are the last two months of “roundup”, our spring membership drive. During this membership drive, the $15 membership fee will be waived and the new member will receive a $50 credit on their first quarterly dues. Additionally, there are gift certificate drawings for Ambucs who bring guests during the roundup. Bring a guest, they’ll be glad you did!
News of the Week:
…..President Ed presented Alex Seltzer with his AMBUC-Life Member certificate. At the Regional Conference held several weekends ago in Altoona, Alex snagged one of the two available Life Memberships.
…..Lisa Drzal reported that her recent encounter with a veteran at the Veteran’s Home who was in need of a cane turned out well as the club paid for a new cane for the vet and Lisa delivered it to him. If this caring act wasn’t within our mission….I’m not sure what would be. Thanks go out to Lisa for her caring observation.
…..Speaking of Lisa, she is attempting to organize a yard sale, the procedes of which would go into our Amtryke fund. The details are still in the preliminary stages but the plan is to hold the sale on the first weekend in June. More details to follow, but start looking in your garage, basement or wherever you may have some things to donate to the sale. Volunteers will also be needed to work the sale.
…..John Lloyd promoted the AMBUCS Amtryke Wish List Club, noting that for just a dollar a day you can help a child on the wish list get their tryke. John explained that several hundred children are on the list and it seems as fast as a child is presented an Amtryke, another is added. He noted that you can go to the AMBUCS web site and view many of the children on the list. When John mentioned that one child on the list is Xavier who lives in South Williamsport, a motion was made for the club to fund this little boy’s tryke. The vote was an easy one and Kristan is in the process of working with National AMBUCS to order the Amtryke. For more information on how you can help for just $1.00 a day, see the article on the next page.
…..Remember our Marianna Hoagie and Pizza Fundraiser for the club. Delivery will be on June 6th with orders due by May 30th. The price will be the same as last time…. $7.00 for the hoagies and $8.00 for the pizzas. See Rachael Lenhart for order forms.
…..Bruce Brower led the Ambucs in attendance to a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday for the Ambucs born in May. Although not all were on hand to hear the singing…..the May birthdays included Susan Barber, Rachel DiAndrea, Lisa Drzal, Ed Farabaugh, Rachael Lenhart, Steve Parks, Tim Parnell, and Bill Reintgen.
…..Did you know that unfortunately there is a waiting list of children that could benefit from an Amtryke? The “Amtryke Wish List” has several hundred children across the country that are waiting for a tryke. Even though there are over 140 AMBUCS chapters, there are many areas that are not close to a club; and the children in these areas that could use an Amtryke are often left out. With several hundred children on the Wish List, some children have to wait up to two years for their Amtryke! But you can help for just a dollar a day! Please join me in becoming a member of the Wish List Club. With a $5 down payment and then $30 a month you can join the Wish List Club and help bring Amtrykes to children on the Wish List. To join the Wish List Club go to: https://www.ambucs.org/donate-now/amtryke/ and sign up. It couldn’t be easier to bring a smile to a future Amtryke recipient!
…..President Ed pulled the winning raffle ticket of Tony Miller last week. Tony, hoping that his luck would be better having Kathy Storm pick the card for him, still struck out. Kathy chose the Jack of Clubs….which not being the Joker…paid nothing. Therefore, there are still two Jokers in the deck with nine cards gone, so try your luck with the purchase of a raffle ticket this week. The Pot’s around $200.
…..Speaking of Ambuc Tony Miller, the Altoona Curve held a homerun hitting contest on Saturday night, pitting some locals against former major league homerun hitter, Jose Canseco. Tony participated and while he didn’t win the contest, he did manage to have power-hitting Canseco only best him by three homeruns….a story Tony will be able to tell everyone for years. Maybe Tony should have been on the “juice”! Editor’s Note: the picture is Canseco, not Tony.
